Radiohead - Amnesiac
Most of these tracks were recorded together with Kid A and while this cd doesn't hold together as well as that one, it's still full of music that only Radiohead could get away with.
Bela Fleck & the Flecktones - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo
I'm trying hard to like this cd after recommendations from a couple of different friends. There's no doubt that Bela Fleck plays a banjo like nobody's business, but after a first listen I can't help sensing a bit of a saccharine-tinged aftertaste.
Thelonious Monk Quartet - With John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall
Now, this is pure jazz. This recording of a 1957 concert was discovered earlier this year and released to universal acclaim. It showcases two jazz giants playing together at the height of their careers.
Steve Reich - Eight Lines/City Life
On first listen, the City Life suite stands out, with sampled shouts and murmurs blending with Reich's music to produce an aural cityscape.
Brad Lubman - Insomniac
Lubman, an Eastman School professor, blends drum samples with string quartets, sounding at times like some warped mixture of Meat Beat Manifesto and John Adams. Every track brings something different and it's all good.
Ted Smoker - The Early Works
This is a cd that Ted gave to me. Everything here can be found on his website. My favorite is "Tristan."
