The Myth of Sisyphus and other essays

by Albert Camus

I dig Camus. I'm just getting started with this, but I can tell I'm gonna like it. One of my top five novels is Camus' The Plague. While that novel represented a fictional account of the human struggle with an absurd world, these essays are Camus' early attempt to describe this struggle in philosophical terms.

That is, given the absurdity of the world around us, how does one find meaning in life or a reason to live when faced with the futility of our existence? Camus reasons that only when we understand the absurdity of the world around us can we truly act rationally, finding meaning in our actions and value in our existence.

(Coincidentally, Seth recently put up a big old picture of Camus in his post about Harold Pinter's Nobel Prize Award.)
