When Whacked-Out is Good

John Zorn - Naked City
John Zorn - The Gift
It's high time I got some John Zorn in my collection. Naked City has a lot of the free-wheeling, jamming, whacked-out sound that Zorn is famous for. The Gift is more "accessible" with the whacked-outness lurking just below the surface. Plus, Zorn playing the theremin on "Bridge to Beyond," is worth the purchase price alone.
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Gorillaz - G-Sides
Gorillaz - Demon Days
The pop "super-group" of the '00s. Damon Albarn of Blur, Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto, Kid Koala, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, cover art and bass by cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, and a whole slew of guest artists. (These cds are on loan from George, maybe I'll return them someday.)
Sex Mob - Solid Sender
Their music was described by one reviewer who caught them at the recent Jazz Fest as sounding like "frat-house jazz". Rock on, dude!
