I'm almost all of the way through the encoding of my entire cd collection, having completed the pop/etc category, finished most of my 20th c. classical, and am more than halfway through the jazz section.

Being immersed in jazz these past few days has made me a little nostalgic. Back when my cd collection was much smaller and more jazz-heavy, I used to amuse myself by listening to my entire jazz collection by using artists as stepping stones. I would listen to a Coltrane cd that had Miles playing on trumpet, then would jump to a Miles cd that had Max roach playing on drums, then a Max Roach cd with Sonny Rollins on tenor sax, etc.

Kenny Dorham - Una Mas
Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop
Kenny Dorham - Afro-Cuban
I always tried to plan it so that I either started or ended with Kenny Dorham. One of the first jazz tunes I ever remember hearing live was Dorham's "Buffalo" performed by my college roommate at a campus gig. I've been a fan ever since.
Joe Henderson - Page One
Joe Henderson - Our Thing
All six of these cds feature Dorham as either a leader or side player. His partnerships with Joe Henderson comprise some of his best work. "Blue Bossa," which appears on Henderson's Page One, is one of Dorham's compositions that has become a jazz standard.
Max Roach - Plus Four
Kenny Dorham was sitting in for Clifford Brown on this cd, Brown having died tragically in a car accident just three month prior to this recording session.
