Whipping up a Jazz Sundae

Feeling a little jazz-deprived lately, I plopped these tasty selections into the cd changer:

Claudia Acuña - Luna
This was my first good listen to this cd I recently received as a birthday present. Lilting and smooth, Acuña's vocals are soothing without the icky sugar-coating found so often in the contemporary jazz scene.
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Quite possibly the greatest music recording. Ever.
McCoy Tyner - The real McCoy
At the top of his game two years after leaving the John Coltrane Quartet (see above for more beautiful Tyner solos).
Dave Murray - Creole
A rollicking album jam-packed with (as the title suggests) Creole influences.
Charles Mingus - Mingus at Antibes
An intense and explosive live recording featuring Mingus, Ted Curson, Eric Dolphy, and Booker Ervin.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
A rock-funk cherry on top of my jazz sundae.
