Minimalism and Crimsonism

King Crimson - The ProjeKts
I picked this up a couple of weeks ago at Fantastic Record's going-out-of-business sale. This 4-cd set released in 1999 captures King Crimson in the midst of one of many musical transformations. This time they move from the double trio lineup found in Thrak to various combinations of a more traditional four-person lineup. Each of the four discs has a slightly different flavor as Robert Fripp looks to find new avenues to explore.
Steve Reich - Different Trains/Electric Counterpoint
The Kronos Quartet performs on the first half of the cd, along with samples of train sounds and spoken voice. Pat Metheny performs the second half, accompanying himself on up to ten layered guitar tracks. This is some of the most engaging minimalist music I've found (not that I've "found" all that much...).
Tan Dun - Ghost Opera
The Kronos Quartet again, this time performing a supremely creepy opera by Chinese composer Tan Dun. I haven't yet listened to this one enough to have formed much of an opinion.
