Everything and More
For those math geeks out there (Hi Matt!), there is a new book, just about to be released by W.W.Norton and written by David Foster Wallace (my favorite author). Everything and More: A Compact History of ∞ presents for the lay reader the accomplishments of mathemetician Georg Cantor, who integrated the concept of infinity into modern mathematics and invented the field of set theory along the way.
If you're the kind of person who cares what the critics think, there are some favorable reviews out there along with some not quite favorable reviews. You should be able to tell from the title if the book is for you, but if you're unconvinced, listen to DFW's interview with NPR's Talk of the Nation. Doesn't he just sound like a nice guy? Wouldn't you want to read his book?
Great site.. just wondering if you would consider posting a bibliography of your favorite books.
Tedious
Posted by: Tedious at October 24, 2003 12:24 PMYeah, I had thought about that. My original idea was to post about books as I read them, but I haven't been reading much lately.
Besides, before I post a list of books, I have to post more pictures of Abby. Also some pictures of Audrey, our friends' (Doug and Julie) almost-two-year-old, not to mention more critter pix and some of my b&w stuff for which i need to buy a scanner... et cetera et cetera
